The Gates’ Largest Donation

Posted on: January 29, 2010

The richest person in the world, Bill Gates, and his wife Belinda will donate $10 billion in the next ten years to help in the production of vaccines. The World Health Organization has named the next 10 years as the Decade of the Vaccines, and the generous donation of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is hoped to be just a seed to encourage further contribution on the matter.

The WHO could not be more grateful to the largest philanthropist in the world, and has already done some calculations in reference to the effects this money could have in third world countries: around 8 million children will avoid death caused by preventable illnesses.
The $10 billion break a record previously set by their foundation and whose generosity was compensated with the award “Principe de Asturias”: $500 million for The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
