Masoli and James were both suspended for their actions.

Oregon football coach Chip Kelly announced on Friday that quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has been suspended for the entire upcoming season after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary. He stole a pair of laptops and a guitar from a campus fraternity. Masoli, a potential Heisman candidate, threw for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. He also rushed for 668 yards and 13 touchdowns. He will remain on scholarship and will have the option of red-shirting. Kelly also announced that star running back LaMichael James would be suspended for the season-opener versus New Mexico. James pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor harassment charge and was sentenced to 10 days in jail on Friday. However, James will not serve jail time due to overcrowding and because his offense was relatively minor. James set a Pac-10 freshman record with more than 1,500 yards rushing last season. He took over the starting job last season after LeGarrette Blount was suspended for punching a Boise State player.

Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly, or I should say former head coach, left Cincinnati last week to become the next head coach at Norte Dame. This all happened after Cincinnati defeated Pittsburgh 45-44 to win the Big East title and they got a bid to play in the Sugar Bowl against Florida. Kelly will not coach the team in there bowl game. This has made national news for ditching his team after leading them to a undefeated season. After the win against Pitt, Cincinnati safety Aaron Webster told reporters that Coach Kelly told them in the locker room that “He loves Cincinnati and I love it here. I’m staying.” Whether Kelly did say that or did not say that, he still left Cincinnati to become Notre Dame’s next head coach. Kelly signed a five year contract which is the same amount of time that the last three head coaches got to try to turn Notre Dame around. The amount of the contract has not yet be released however the amount will most likely make him one of the most high paid coaches in the country. Notre Dame said that they are sure that Kelly will turn the team around and get them back on top of the college football world.  However the five year mark has been set in stone so Kelly will most likely get five years to return Notre Dame to greatness.

Alabama running back was named the 2009 Heisman trophy winner.

Alabama sophomore running back Mark Ingram won the 2009 Heisman Trophy, awarded annually to college football’s most valuable player. In the closest vote in Heisman history, Ingram beat out Stanford’s Toby Gerhart by 28 points to capture the award Saturday night. They were followed by Colt McCoy, Ndamukong Suh, and Tim Tebow. Ingram rushed for a school-record 1,542 yards this season with an amazing 6.2 yards per carry. He is also the third consecutive sophomore to win the prestigious award and Alabama’s first Heisman winner. In his acceptance speech, Ingram became very emotional and thanked numerous people including his parents, coaches, support staff, trainers, and teachers. Ingram and the #1 ranked Crimson Tide are set to face McCoy and the #2 ranked Texas Longhorns on January 7 for the Rose Bowl.

Florida is ranked number 1

This week is one of the most important weeks in college football. It is a time when rivals duke it out for bragging rights for the next year. A lot of the games are between in-state rival universities. The most important games are being played to name the conference champion. To start off the week Oregon plays at home against Oregon State in the Civil War on Thursday. The winner of this game will earn a spot in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California to face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The biggest game this weekend though is the SEC championship game between the unbeaten Florida gator and the also unbeaten Alabama Crimson Tide. The winner of that game will play in the BCS national championship. There will be a lot of good football on this weekend so make sure to watch.

picture of bowl games

Coming up in the middle of December there are going to be 20 or more bowl games being played. In theses bowl games there are going to be over 40 teams playing for pride or even the national championship game. The five major bowl games are the: cotton, rose, orange, sugar and national championship. Theses games are the most popular games out of all of the bowl games. The teams that get to play in the small bowl games aren’t really playing for a trophy or a national championship or some sort of prize. They are just playing for pride or for fun you could say. In college football theses are the most exciting times in the college football season and theses bowl games bring in a lot of viewers to the tv and the games bring in a lot of money.

Charlie Weis, the coach for Notre Dame was fired, because they didn’t think that he was making any progress as head coach of the team. But he doesn’t know what he is doing wrong, the Notre Dame school doesn’t want another losing season and fans are mad at the coach. The football team had ended with four loses in a row.

Bobby Bowden, head football coach for the Florida State Seminoles has two choices to make for his football coaching career. One choice is that he would retire and not be the football coach, and the other choice is that he would be the administrator of the team, but he wouldn’t get any input on the team.

Another big thing that had happened in college football this weekend is that Tim Tebow, the quarterback of the Florida Gators is that this was his last home game and he had played a good game against the Florida State Seminole and on the way into the field he had an emotional walk when he saw his friends and family.

Three of Lane Kiffins football players were arrested last week.

This past summer, Lane Kiffin was hired as Tennessee’s head football coach. He started off great by bringing in the best recruiting class Tennessee has ever had which included 5 star safety Janzen Jackson and 5 star receiver Nu’Keese Richardson. Both players started all of Tennessee’s games this season and both were improving every week until last week when they made a very poor decision. Along with Mike Edwards and Marie Montmarquet they robbed a couple at a gas station right next to campus at 2 A.M. Police arrested all four players on Monday and all of them have been charged with armed robbery. A trial date has not been set yet. For Kiffin, loosing 3 talented freshmen, Jackson, Richardson, and Edwards is tough because all of them play significant minutes for the team. All three have been dismissed from the team and are waiting for the judge to set a court date. It was also not good when the police found the car that they were in that night, due to a bag of marijuana being found. This will be another charge that they will have to face. This is not the opening season Lane Kiffin was hoping to have.
