Hurricane Charley

Posted on: October 8, 2008

In 2004 Florida was hit with one of the most active hurricane seasons of all time. Hurricane Charley was the one that hit closest to where I live. Even today you can still see the damage driving through Port Charlotte. In 2004 Hurricane Charley became the strongest storm since Andrew to strike the U.S. With winds reaching 150mph not much was left standing in Port Charlotte. After the storm, people had to go to other cities to use there cell phones and pretty much everyone was left homeless. The total damage was 13 billion dollars worth. Charley came, destroyed and left, all in about 7 hours. Because of Charley’s original projected path many people fled from Tampa to Port Charlotte. With the speed Charlie had people had no where to go when it made land fall. A lot of people got caught right in the middle of the storm. Today Charlie is remembered and when a hurricane comes people know how to prepare. Port Charlotte is back on its feet but the damage is still evident driving around the city. Let’s just hope we never have to go through another Hurricane Charley in the future.

  • Rob Dresser: Many people have a poor grasp of what this is about. At its core this is about advanced stage terminal illness and relieving those in that condition
