Early Tuesday morning Gainesville Police found a car stopped at green light. When the Police got to the window they found Florida defensive end Carlos Dunlap asleep at the wheel. When the police woke Dunlap they soon found out that Dunlap was driving under the influence and was soon arrested. Yesterday Florida football coach Urban Myer released a statement saying that Dunlap would not play in Saturday’s SEC championship game against Alabama. Dunlap a 6 foot 6 290 pound junior was named 2009 defensive MVP of the BCS National Championship game and led the SEC with sack last season. This year Dunlap has 35 tackles and eight and a half sacks which is tied for first in the SEC. this hurts the defense that has to play one of the top rushing attacks in the country so losing Dunlap is a huge loss for the Gators. The Gainesville Police have not yet decided if they will punish Dunlap more but they soon will release a statement about his future.

Carlos Dunlap was arrested early Tuesday morning for Drunk Driving

Charlie Weis was known for out scheming his opponents in the NFL as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.   Just five years ago Weis was hired to become the Notre Dame Head football coach. He was brought in to return the Irish back to the way they were back in the glory days. However, after losing his last four games of this season and finishing the season six and six Weis was fired from Notre Dame. Weis still has six years left on is contract. Weis had the same amount of wins and the same winning percentage as the two men before him and both were fired after five seasons at Notre Dame. The Athletic Department has not released names for the next potential Notre Dame Football coach but whoever it is they better be ready for the pressure and all of the criticism that coach’s take at Notre Dame. As for Weis he has not said anything about returning to the NFL or coaching any where period, but if you ask some they will tell you that this is not Charlie Weis’s last stop in coaching.

Three of Lane Kiffins football players were arrested last week.

This past summer, Lane Kiffin was hired as Tennessee’s head football coach. He started off great by bringing in the best recruiting class Tennessee has ever had which included 5 star safety Janzen Jackson and 5 star receiver Nu’Keese Richardson. Both players started all of Tennessee’s games this season and both were improving every week until last week when they made a very poor decision. Along with Mike Edwards and Marie Montmarquet they robbed a couple at a gas station right next to campus at 2 A.M. Police arrested all four players on Monday and all of them have been charged with armed robbery. A trial date has not been set yet. For Kiffin, loosing 3 talented freshmen, Jackson, Richardson, and Edwards is tough because all of them play significant minutes for the team. All three have been dismissed from the team and are waiting for the judge to set a court date. It was also not good when the police found the car that they were in that night, due to a bag of marijuana being found. This will be another charge that they will have to face. This is not the opening season Lane Kiffin was hoping to have.

Abdul-Jabbar has been fighting cancer since last December

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is seen by most people as the best basketball player of all time. He was a six time MVP of the NBA and he still is the all time leading scorer in the history of the NBA. Kareem was truly untouchable in his NBA career, he was the greatest. However, his life took a turn for the worst in December in 2008 when he was told by doctors at UCLA that he had a rare form of Leukemia. At the time no one was sure what would happen to the all time leading scorer of the NBA, but today we do know. Doctors have told him that he can live out the rest of his life and he won’t have to make any drastic changes to his lifestyle. Abdul-Jabbar is taking an oral medication to help his symptoms of the cancer, but he is doing fine and is fighting the cancer as best as he can. Even thought that the doctors said that he could live a normal life there is still a small chance that the cancer could spread to other parts of the body. Which could cause him to be in a worse situation than he is now. But as of right now he is doing fine and he will still continue to help big men in the NBA with the skills as long as he can.

Brett Favre was not treated well when he returned to Green Bay

November 1st has been circled on every Green Bay Packers fan calendar since summer. The reason why is because Brett Favre signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings, which is the worst thing he could have done after he left Green Bay. November 1st was the day that Favre would come back to Lambeau Field in Green Bay. After Favre lit up the Packers in Minnesota the Green Bay fans were prepared to let Favre have it. Some people said that Favre would be greeted with open arms but those people were wrong. Before the game even started, Favre was greeted with a whole bunch of boo’s and just a few cheers.  However, Favre went nuts in the first half throwing 3 touchdown passes and finishing the game with 4 touchdown passes. During the game, Packers fans held up signs that said they were broken hearted. Some signs even compared him to Judas because of him being a traitor. Even though the Packers have yet to beat Favre this year, the Packer faithful will never pull for Favre again.

Rondo has agreed to a 55 million dollar contract with the Boston Celtics

In 2006 Rajon Rondo left the University of Kentucky after his sophomore year of school. Almost everyone that was a Kentucky basketball fan said that Rondo was not ready for the National Basketball Association (NBA). Critics said that Rondo was not strong enough; he didn’t have a good enough jump shot and he couldn’t go to his left. In 2006 Rondo was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the first round at number 21.  The day after the draft he was traded to the Boston Celtics.  Being drafted that high in the NBA draft silenced the critics for only a few months, however they came back saying that they were right about Rondo and said he would never make it. After one year, Rondo worked his way into some playing time and in 2008 he earned the starting point guard job at Boston Celtics.  Then the funniest thing happened; all of the critics that said that Rondo would never make it started to praise him saying that they always knew he would make it. After Rondo averaged 11.9 points, 8.2 assists, and 5.2 rebounds a game in 2008 he as of yesterday signed a 5 year extension on his contract. Rondo is garneted 55 million dollars over the next 5 years. One NBA championship ring, a starting point guard job, and a 55 million dollar contract has silenced his critics for good!

Grammy Award winning artist Dewayne “lil Wayne” Carter was arrested in July of 2007 on a street corner with another man. The officer that arrested the two men said that they were smoking marijuana and Carter had .40 caliber pistol on him. With the charges, Carter could face is up to 15 years in prison.  However, Carter will plead guilty in a chance to lower his sentence.  The trial for Carter’s case will start in January of 2010 and he will have his sentencing date in February of 2010.  Since “lil Wayne” has chosen to plead guilty he will face up to a year in prison.  The charges for the case will be possession of a loaded weapon and having an illegal drug on him.  For some of lil Wayne’s fans the might look at it as a positive – he might make some good rap songs from this experience. We will just have to wait and see what he will do.
