The Pendleton Panther

Senior Profile: Ryan Swinney

Posted on: May 27, 2010

Being a student athlete is one of the most difficult things to do in the world in high school and in college. However this young man has mastered the student part and if it was not for a knee injury this season he would have continued to become a better baseball player. If you have not guessed him yet I am talking about Ryan William Swinney. Ryan was the player on the baseball team that always had a positive attitude in every situation. When he went down this year with injury not only did he have a positive attitude he would not let it slow him down. Even though he could no longer play in games he continued to hit and throw on his own to get better. On the field as teammates we all wanted to see Ryan do well on the field but we also cheered for him off the field more than any other person on our team. We not only wanted Ryan to get healthy we wanted to see him get accepted in to Harvard University. However our cheers helped very little in getting him accepted. Most kids that apply to Harvard with grades like Ryan’s would have been devastated, but this did not stop Ryan. He did not get down on himself he quickly rebounded from bad news. Ryan soon found himself in another great situation he now will be attending Tulane University and will be playing baseball when he becomes 100 percent again. Even though Ryan and I will be graduating and will be going in different directions I will be cheering for Ryan in baseball and school. Good luck in the future Ryan I will miss you dearly.  — Blake Perry
