Super Saver Wins Kentucky Derby

Posted on: May 1, 2010

Super Saver has won the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Jockeyed by Calvin Borel, Super Saver was able to conquer the sloppy 1 1/4 mile track at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Given 15-1 odds at the beginning of the race, Borel sat back and waited for the final turn. He was able to slip in between the rabbit horse and eventually cruised to victory. Super Saver’s time for the race was 2:04.45. Ice Box finished second and Paddy O’ Prado finished third. This is Borel’s third Kentucky Derby in the last four years. He guided Street Sense to victory in 2007 and Mine That Bird last year. Also, this the first win out of 25 entries in the Derby for trainer Todd Pletcher. Super Saver’s ancestors include A.P. Indy, Secretariat, and Seattle Slew. Next up for Super Saver will be the Preakness Stakes, the 2nd jewell of the Triple Crown.
