Lorena Ochoa in action.

The world’s #1 women’s golfer, Lorena Ochoa has announced via a short press release that she will be stepping away from the game of golf and retiring. She is only a young 28 and has blazed a trail as one of the most dominant female athletes for not only golf but also for this era as well. She has scheduled a news conference in Mexico City on Friday where she will address questions from the media. In her short career on tour, she has amassed 27 victories, won two majors, and also was named LPGA Player of the Year for the last 4 years.

However, she recently has started struggling with her game ever since getting married to Andres Conesa, a top AeroMexico executive, in December 2009. It has been tough for her to juggle a family life along with her golf game because her marriage brought in 3 step children.Ochoa, is a major humanitarian and is known for her class and grace on the golf course. Although she is stepping away from the game of golf, I am sure she will be very involved in charities and events pertaining to golf. This is reminiscent of how former world no.1 Annika Sorenstam retired 2 years ago.
