Gold Medal for England

Last Friday, Team GB won their 1st gold medal of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.  It has been a 30 year drought since England won their last gold in the Winter Olympics.  Amy Williams is the star athlete that took the gold last week.  Her lead began straight after the 1st run and did not cease throughout the whole tournament.  Her first run was 53.83 seconds, which actually became the track record.  She then kept her advantage throughout the rest of the runs, never loosing her spot on top.  Amy Williams is 27 years old and from Bath, England.  She won the silver medal in the World Championships but was never really looked upon as a favorite in the Olympics.  She proved to many people in England and around the world that she was more than a favorite, she was a champion!  She took number 1 spot on the podium along with two other Germans in 2nd and 3rd.  It was a very successful Olympics for Team GB women’s skeleton.
