Girl Arrested for Doodling

Alexa Gonzalez was sitting at her desk bored and tired of school. She wrote the words, “I love my friends, Abby and Faith. Lex was here 2/1/10” on her desk with a green marker. No profanity, no hate, just simple words of a 12 year olds bordum. Alexa said she expected some sort of detention, lecture, or punishment if somebody saw the bright green writing on the desk, but thought nothing else of it. Instead, when the Principle of the middle school in Forest Hill, New York, saw the writing, he called the police and had her arrested. Alexa was handcuffed in front of her classmates, teachers, but worst of all, her friends, and taken across the street to the station. After her parents picked her up from the station, she said, “They put the handcuffs on me, and I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t want them to see me being handcuffed, thinking I’m a bad person.” Alexa is not facing any sort of suspension but questions have been raised about the newly adopted “Zero Tolerance Policy,” that schools have taken into effect.
