The 2010 Verizon Junior Heritage came to a close yesterday with Pendleton’s own Laetitia Beck as the individual girls’ division champion. She posted scores of 73 and 74 for a 147 total. Laetitia avenged her playoff loss last year to U.S. No.1 Alexis Thompson by beating her by 2 shots this year. This prestigious and elite invitation only field annually is ranked among the top 7 events nationally. It is always contested under brutally cold and windy conditions on 2 extreme tests of golf. It is played in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina at the Sea Pines Resort. The courses used are the Ocean Course for Round 1 and the world famous Harbor Town Golf Links for the 2nd round. The day before the event a heavy storm passed through that dropped massive amounts of rain on the two courses. The fairways wouldn’t give up any yardage to the courses that were already set up to PGA Tour pin positions and conditions.Harbor Town Golf Links is the site of the PGA Tour’s Verizon Heritage Classic that is contested annually in April. The Ocean Course played to a rating of 74.1 on a par of 72 and Harbor Town played to a rating of 75.1 with a extremely high slope of 146 on a par of 71.

Beck shot a 73 in the first round amid 30 mph winds and 35 degree weather to take the lead. In the second round, Beck made a birdie on the difficult opening tenth hole and never fell behind her rival Alexis Thompson.

Beck is ranked No. 8 in the country according to the Golfweek National Rankings and has committed to play golf for Duke University this coming fall.

Other IMG players at the event:

Boys: Seiji Liu took 12th place. Zhong Yang Fu 20th place. Tanapol Vattanapisit 28th place.

Girls:  Tanaporn Kongkiatkrai 16th place. Hally Leadbetter 25th place.

seiji, thanks for the good article and coverage of Pendleton students. Nice job on your finish. I know it’s not first but still a good showing.

  • Rob Dresser: Many people have a poor grasp of what this is about. At its core this is about advanced stage terminal illness and relieving those in that condition
