Stricker Wins Northern Trust Open

Posted on: February 7, 2010

Steve Stricker won the Northern Trust Open on Sunday.

Steve Stricker shot a 1-under 70 on Sunday to win the Northern Trust Open, played at Riviera Country Club in California. He finished the tournament with a 16-under score of 268. Stricker started the day with a 6-shot lead, but that was cut to only 2 shots after 5 holes. Stricker, however, was able to grind out the victory.  This is Stricker’s 8th career victory and it also moves him to #2 in the World Rankings, passing Phil Mickelson. He still has a ways to go in order to catch Tiger Woods and his #1 ranking.Stricker did face some tough competition in his victory. Luke Donald finished second alone, and two shots behind Stricker, with a score of 14-under. Dustin Johnson and J.B. Holmes both finished at 13-under. Stricker became emotional, as usual, after his victory because of his struggles 4 years ago. “I remember where I was and where I am now,” Stricker said. “It doesn’t get any better.”
