7 Year Old British Boy Raises 220k for Haiti

A 7 year old boy in Britain named Charlie Simpson had a iron willed ambition to raise money and do what he could when he had heard about the Haiti disaster. He has raised the equivalent of over 220,000 US Dollars when he initially was trying to reach a goal of 800 dollars and donate it to UNICEF’s earthquake division. According to CNN, he posted “My name is Charlie Simpson. I want to do a sponsored bike ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives,” said Simpson on his JustGiving page, a fundraising site which launched his efforts. And with that simple call, messages of support flooded the site. Even British Prime Minister Gordon Brown helped to spread the message. His “Downing Street” Twitter alias said, “Amazed by response to the great fundraising efforts of 7 yr old Charlie Simpson for the people of Haiti.” His case is truly an inspirational one. All the money he has raised is going towards UNICEF’s Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal which will provide water, sanitation, education, nutrition to children in need. It also will aid in the children protection agency. It is truly astonishing how he raised this immense a sum of money just with a simple 5 mile bike ride in the park and a truly humanitarian heart to help others.
