Saints Beat Vikings, Advance to Super Bowl

Posted on: January 24, 2010

The New Orleans Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings in overtime by a score of 31-28 in tonight’s NFC Championship game. Minnesota had a chance to win in regulation but Brett Favre threw an interception in the final minute that sent the game into overtime. New Orleans won the coin toss and Drew Brees drove them into position for a 40-yard field goal attempt by Garrett Hartley. His kick split the uprights and sent the Saints to the Superbowl. This game will be remembered for Brett Favre turning the ball over in the final minute when there could have been a game-winning field goal attempt by Minnesota. Favre had three turnovers in the game. The Saints were able to win despite a sub-par performance by Drew Brees. However, they were able to take advantage of costly turnovers by the Vikings. The Saints will play the Indianapolis Colts in Superbowl XLIV on February 7, 2010. Maybe next year Brett!
