Las Vegas Water Shortage
Posted January 5, 2010on:
When people imagine Las Vegas they imagine the nightlife, gambling, and expensive hotels. Every year, thousands of people from all over the world travel to Las Vegas. What people don’t think of when they imagine Vegas is a severe drought. Currently, 90% of Vegas’ water is supplied by the Colorado River. The big problem is that the Colorado River is in severe drought. The Hoover Dam’s (the dam that holds a lot of the water supplied to Las Vegas) water levels have dropped over 100 ft. This is a very scary though for many people in Nevada. Scientists believe that the water could run out in about 8 years if serious actions are not taken. They have devised some ways to help the problem, but who knows how long it will take for the benefits to kick in. It is going to be a close call but quite fitting for Vegas. After all, everything is one big gamble!
