Welker Injured in Pats’ Loss

Posted on: January 4, 2010

New England Patriots’ wide receiver Wes Welker has torn the ACL and MCL of his left knee. Welker was injured while planting his left leg on his first reception of the day. This is a big loss for New England as Welker was their leading-receiver on the year. He finished the regular season with 123 catches, good for 1,348 yards. New England lost their regular-season finale Sunday to the Buffalo Bills by a score of 34-27. Welker’s season ending injury puts more pressure on Randy Moss and other Pats’ receivers to step up in Welker’s absence. Julian Edelman stepped in for Welker on Sunday and had a career-day, catching 10 balls for 103 yards. The Patriots will play the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday in an AFC Wild Card Game. The game will be played in New England.
