The Contagious Acts of Feeling

Ever feel left out? Lonely? Separated? All by yourself? Angry? Happy? If you experience any of these feelings yourself, it could only be a matter of time before others around you experience them as well. Researchers are claiming that “loneliness” and other emotions can spread from person to person as well as habits, which can be contagious to others around you. For example if one of your closest friends is grumpy, if you surround yourself with them enough, it will only be a matter time before you become grumpy as well. It is often said that whomever you surround yourself with, you end up being like, or take part in similar activities. As we get older in life, the people we surround ourselves with make up our image and, often the first impressions that we give people will reflect the group that we associate with. One of the most difficult things I had to learn growing up was who you surround yourself greatly impacts you regardless of whether you realize it or not. Over time, your actions become similar to those around you and that can be good in instances but bad in others. My advice is be aware of the spread of contagious acts and take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself who you want to be and which peers can help get you there.
