Emergency of the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system including over 2,900 individual reefs. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from the outer space. It is also the world’s biggest single structure made by living organisms. It is built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyp. And it got selected among the new Seven Wonders of the World.  But the Great Barrier Reef is threatened by the dangerous gas co2. The Great Barrier Reef has only a 50 percent chance of survival, if global CO2 is not reducing by 2020, an australian scientist announced. Australia is also one of the world’s biggest CO2 producers. But the Australian government is struggling to have a hostile Senate pass its planned emission-trading scheme.  The final vote is beginning in next week. I think Australia government should solve this problem immediately, because the Great Barrier Reef is not just a tourism site it is also the valuable culture in the world.
