John Allen Muhammad testifying in court.

John Allen Muhammad, the man behind the Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia area  sniping attacks of 2002 that put the entire nation in a state of fear is set to be executed tonight at 9 P.M. Eastern time at a federal prison in Jarratt, Virginia. He is set to be executed by lethal injection at Greensville Correctional Center. After all these years, Muhammad has continued to argue his innocence and accuses federal prosecutors of racial bias and that he was a victim. He claims that the government is holding in vital evidence from the public that could clear his name.

The attacks took place in a span of 3 weeks in October of 2002. Muhammad took along with him then 17 year old Lee Boyd Malvo as his accomplice in the sniper attacks. Together they killed 10 people and wounded 3. According to CNN, “Prosecutors say Muhammad intended the killings to provide a smokescreen to cover up his real goal; he hoped to kill his wife Mildred and gain custody of his three children.”

Muhammad used a Bushmaster XM-15 rifle and .233 ammo for his killing spree. He had cut a hole out of the back of his Chevy Caprice and removed the wall between the back seat and trunk. This allowed him to easily snipe people from within the car.

**Update: Muhammad was denied a last minute request of clemency from the governor and was executed by lethal injection at 9 pm.
