Howard Doesn’t Touch Home…Called Safe

Posted on: November 4, 2009

In order to score a run in baseball, the player must touch home plate. In game 4 of the World Series on Sunday night, Ryan Howard scored without touching the plate. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Howard tried to score on a two-out single by Pedro Feliz.92601553 He arrived at home plate at about the same time Yankees’s catcher Jorge Posada tried to catch the throw from left fielder Johnny Damon, who has a very below-average arm. Posada had control of the ball for a blink of the eye before it was knocked out by a head first charge by Howard. There was no protest from the Yankee dugout, even though replay clearly showed Howard missed the plate. This is just another example of the controversial umpiring of the World Series and of the entire 2009 playoffs.
