McCutchen Named Rookie of the Year by BA

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has been named the 2009 Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year by Baseball America, a baseball magazine. McCutchen is on the cover of the current edition of the magazine. McCutchen had a very good rookie season. He hit .286 with 26 doubles, 9 triples, 12 home runs, 54 rbis and 22 stolen bases in 108 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was called up from Indianapolis, the Pirates Triple AAA affiliate, on June 4. He was the National League rookie-leader in extra-base hits with 47 and was 2nd in multi-hit games, runs, walks, and total bases. The most important rookie of the year award, by the Baseball Writers’ Association, will be announced November 16.
