Angels Win in Extra Innings

The Los Angeles Angels defeated the New York Yankees in 11 innings on Monday by a score of 5-4. Derek Jeter hit a leadoff home run in the first inning for the Yankees. Alex Rodriguez made it 2-0 with a 4th inning solo-home run. Johnny Damon also hit a 5th inning home run to make it 5-0. However, LA responded and cut the lead to 3-1 with a solo home run by second basemen Howie Kendrick. In the bottom of the sixth, Vladimir Guerrero tied the game with a 2-run home run to left. In the bottom of the 7th, Macier Izturis hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to give the Angels a 4-3 lead. The Yankees responded in the bottom of the 8th when Jorge Posada hit a solo-home run to center. The game went to extra-innings and in the bottom of the 11th, catcher Jeff Mathis hit a double to left-center to score Kendrick and give the Los Angeles Angels a 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees in game three. The Yankees still lead the series by 2 games to 1. Game four is set for tomorrow night in Anaheim.
