College Format Tennis Tournament

Posted on: October 10, 2009

College Format

Last week was the first time I played in a ‘college format’ tennis tournament. This tournament is special in the way that it involves boys and girls of various ages playing in teams against other teams. The teams are made up of a coach, an assisant coach and 8 players. Each player is allocated a ranking depending on their level of play. The teams agree on a colour to dress in, although this didn’t actually work out well since not all team members had tennis clothes in the chosen colours. The atmosphere was great and the coaches were very animated and supportive of their teams.

The matches consisted of singles and doubles against other teams players of the same ranking. The scores ended up being very close at the end of the second day, and although our team didn’t go through to the semi final we watched their matches and cheered. This was a great experience for me and I believe for other players also as it encouraged team building and support of other players in a normally lonely sport. I hope they run another college format tournament again soon.
