After only eight months in office, President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Price. The Nobel Peace Prize is a great honor to uphold and does not come easy. The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it honored Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”As well as recognizing his efforts to solve global problems and working toward a world free of nuclear weapons. Obama said that he was humbled to win such a great and prestigious award such as the Nobel Peace Prize. Only three other U.S. presidents have ever won the Nobel Peace Prize and only Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt did it while they were still in office. The third president to have won the Nobel Peace Prize was Jimmy Carter but he had been out of office for nearly two decades before he won the award.”Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said. The president will make a statement at 11:00 am on friday regarding the award so be sure to tune in.
