Arnold Schwarzenegger Replacing Textbooks with eBooks

Posted on: September 1, 2009

Arnold SchwartzanagerThe governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is suggesting to do away with textbooks in order to save money.  The textbooks will be replaced with a download-able version of the textbook online, or an ebook.  With technology and children today, Schwarzenegger stated that it seemed to be the best way for the students to learn is online or on an ebook (digital textbook).  The school districts have been strapped for money and textbooks aren’t cheap.  In an effort to cut the state budget deficit, the governor plans to launch this idea in August of 2010 for the next school year.  Some teachers really wonder if Arnold Schwarzenegger’s idea will really be cheaper, but according to the governors math it should be.  Mr. Schwarzenegger just wants to get the best deal for the money and to him this seems like the best way.  Kids are better with technology today and would probably much rather carry their laptop to school that a few text books.  This method of learning seems like it would relate to the younger generations better and may help their learning level increase.
