heisman-trophy

Picture of the Heisman Trophy

This year in the Heisman watch of 2009 there are six football players that are in the race to be called the best player of the year in the college football league. The six players that are in the race are; Mark Ingram (RB) for the University of Alabama, Tim Tebow (QB) for the University of Florida, Jimmy Clausen (QB) for the University of Notre Dame, Colt McCoy (QB) for the University of Texas, Case Keenum (QB) for the University of Houston, and Kellen Moore (QB) for the University of Boise State. Some people have said that this will be the hardest decision to make, because all of the candidates for the Heisman Trophy are all good in there own way. A couple of recent Heisman Trophy are; Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Troy Smith and Reggie Bush. My opion who I think will win the Heisman Trophy is Tim Tebow, because he had won it two years ago when he was a sophomore, but his numbers are shooting out the roof with his rushing yards that are more than some running backs, and how he has led his team to the bcs finals and had won it. And that he is just a really good guy and he is always thinking about his team.

The New Dodge Challenger

Posted by: cbizzle23 on: November 6, 2009

challenger-blackDodge, one of America’s first car companies, has done it again! The Dodge Challenger has been remade into a new car. With the same basic ideas but in a modern version.  Auto Trader came out with a study of the Ford Mustang versus the Dodge Challenger.  The Dodge won in most of the comparisons - economy, better gas mileage, comfort and driving. It is an amazing looking car also. Unlike many cars it has a reduced production many each car, one of a kind. There are three basic choices, first SE, then the R/T which has a hemi engine, and then the top of the line SRT-8.  It has a 6.0 liter Hemi engine it.  With this new car, Dodge has really taken a old dog and taught it new tricks.

Overcoming

Posted by: cbizzle23 on: November 6, 2009

overcoming_obstacleBeing faced with competition is hard? It makes us work harder and push ourselves to be on top. But is there a line between good clean competition and under mining the competition? A good example of this is recently I played a soccer team who was very aggressive and harsh. That is good, makes you get hit and eat some grass. Thats fine with me. But once you go into a tackle trying to hurt someone or not really playing soccer. Just going in to hit someone. It is hard to take that but how do you react? Is it superior to not stoop to their level and continue playing or do you let that fire get to you and you put them on the ground? I used to think that get back by scoring a goal or just moving on, but recently saying sorry (even if you are not at fault) does not mean much. It is frustrating to be the person to say sorry and get nothing back.  Competition is hard it makes us work and push ourselves.  It can also push us to show our true colors.

Maine Marriage Laws Repealed

Posted by: twingecko56 on: November 5, 2009

Maine’s same sex marriage law has been abolished.  The law was repealed on Wednesday by an extremely close 6% margin.  Advocates for gay and lesbian rights, however, are far from giving up.  Betsy Smith, a campaigner for same sex marriages said to a crowd of her supporters “Having the protection of the law, as well as the respect and dignity that comes only with marriage, is a journey on which we will continue.”  The movement, nonetheless, is not without its opponents.  Frank Schubert, part of the 53% of voters that supported the repeal had this to say about the victory: “It has all come together tonight, the institution of marriage has been preserved in Maine and across this nation.”  However, Scott Fish, a spokesman for the repeal insists that his movement has never been anti-gay.  “The campaign was very clear about that,” he told reporters Wednesday. “This was a campaign about protecting traditional marriage.”   Perseverance seems quite present on both sides of the issue, and it’s probable that it will come up again.

North Korea Pillages Plutonium

Posted by: twingecko56 on: November 4, 2009

North Korea may have just become a greater nuclear threat. On Tuesday, North Korea announced, through their official news agency, that the nation has finished reprocessing 2,000 spent nuclear fuel rods. While North Korea’s media may not always be the most trusted of sources, but the leftover plutonium in the rods could contain what would be sufficient for at least one nuclear explosive. North Korea has made clear no aggressive intentions regarding the plutonium, but the rest of the world is beginning to worry. A country which chooses not to heat many of its buildings in the winters to save what little money they have may not seem threatening, but North Korean nuclear scientists show formidable bravado. Whatever their intention is, it is unlikely that any more fuel rods could be obtained by North Korea as the reactor that the rods were gleaned from was disabled in 2008.

Poetic Views

Posted by: antpile15 on: November 4, 2009

poetryIn poetry we see the world through many different windows. It can give the reader insight into the writers mind. The reason I enjoy poetry is its power of expression. When reading a poem you can find many general meanings that differ with each reader. Truly amazing poetry will not have a message within its text, but will make a reader aware of the message within themselves. Writers like Whitman and Twain, have become immortal through their poetry. This freedom of expression enables us to explore different ideals. Exploring the depths of our emotions and observing the world as these writers have, will save us from the ignorance that seems to be plaguing our society.

Howard Doesn’t Touch Home…Called Safe

Posted by: mwmbaseball23 on: November 4, 2009

In order to score a run in baseball, the player must touch home plate. In game 4 on Sunday night, Ryan Howard scored without touching the plate. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Howard tried to score on a two-out single by Pedro Feliz.92601553 He arrived at home plate at about the same time Yankees’s catcher Jorge Posada tried to catch the throw from left fielder Johnny Damon, who has a very below-average arm. Posada had control of the ball for a blink of the eye before it was knocked out by a head first charge by Howard. There was no protest from the Yankee dugout, even though replay clearly showed Howard missed the plate. This is just another example of the controversial umpiring of the World Series and of the entire 09′ playoffs.

Damon Steals Two Bases in One Play

Posted by: mwmbaseball23 on: November 4, 2009

58801406Johnny Damon did something last night in game four of the World Series that will be remembered for years to come. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Damon reached first base after a great nine-pitch at bat which resulted in a single to left field. Knowing Brad Lidge isn’t good at holding runners, Damon tried to steal second on the very first pitch of Mark Teixeira’s at bat. Carlos Ruiz wasn’t able to get off a good throw because the pitch was a low and outside slider. Damon easily beat the dribbled throw by Ruiz. This is just the beginning. Because the Phillies put the “Shift” on with Teixeira at the plate, Phillies’s third baseman Pedro Feliz was shifted over to the shortsip position, leaving third base vacated. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins was playing behind second base. After a nifty pop-up slide, Damon immediately sprinted to third base, leaving everyone in attendance stunned in disbelief. Feliz gave chase for a few strides before realizing he had no chance to catch Damon. Teixeira was then hit by a pitch and A-Rod came through with a clutch rbi double down the left field line.

New owner for Arsenal?

Arsenal football club may have a new owner in the coming months. US billionaire Stan Kroenke has recently bought another 427 shares in the club at a cost of 5.8 million dollars, bringing his total number of shares to 29.6% of the club valuing the club at 870 million dollars. According to club rules once a person reaches 30% stake in the club they need to submit a bid to take full ownership of the club. Mr Kroenke acquired the stock from the estate of the late British industrialist Ernest Harrison. “I do not know what Kroenke will do,” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. “All I know is the rules, that if he gets to 30%, he has to make a bid for the club. At the moment, he flirts with the 30, but is not there. “I do not know what his intentions are; I have not spoken to him about it.

General Motors cancels Opel sale

GM had agreed to sell Opel to Magna in September

Rising car sales in the US and throughout the world have forced  the halt of GM’s sale of Opal and Vauxhall to Canadian car parts firm Magna. The giant GM motor company was planning on selling majority shares to the Magna Company. GM added that it had also come to its decision because of the importance of Opel and Vauxhall to its global strategy. This decision came with much anger from many European companies, the planned sale of Opel has been dragging on for months, and the German government had pledged Magna 4.5billion Euros ($6.7billion) of loans. The US giant’s decision to sell its main European business was made after it was forced to announce a loss of $30.9billion for 2008, after its sales plummeted in the global recession. Car analysts say they were not too surprised by GM’s announcement. “GM never really wanted to get rid of Opel, they were being forced into it because of their financial situation,” said Aaron Bragman of IHS Global Insight.

Usain Bolt welcomed a new baby cheetah into his life. Bolt bought a three month old male cheetah, as part of an effort to boost Kenyan conservation efforts of its famous wildlife. These animals are threatened by hunting. Bolt paid $13,700 to adopt the cheetah. He will also pay another $3,000 a year to care for the cheetah, which will be raised at an animal orphanage in Nairobi. Bolt named his new pet Lighting Bolt. Bolts money will also go to the Kenya wildlife service and to the Kenya’s endangered species. Bolt was joined on the trip with former 110 meter hurdles olympic champion Colin Jackson. Bolt was thinking about adopting little lions but when he got the opportunity to feed a grown lion. However, he was a little to scared and decided to stay with the cheetah. Lighting bolt is among the cheetahs in which their mother abandoned them. This money will help save animals life in Kenya.

This could possibly be avoided with the newest technology in car safety.

With nearly 1,162,000 rear end crashes a year, leaving many people injured it is good that some car manufacturers found a way to help avoid them.  This new technology warns you if you are getting to close to a object in front of you by flashing lights, and at the same time prepares the breaks.  Many systems are able to stop the car on their own without you ever putting your foot on the breaks, its almost like the cars are driving themselves.  Other systems prepare the car for impact, doing such things as tightening seatbelt, raising the seat backs, and even closing windows to help avoid passenger from flying out of his our hers vehicle. There are several  luxury car companies that now offer this system, such as Mercedes, Volvos,Lincoln’s, and ford.   Although it has not been proven to be fool proof the companies are pretty certain that they will get good reviews. The estimated cost for this new technology is around 1500 dollars, and can easily pay for itself after only one rear end crash.

Ted Ginn Jr. returning a kickoff for a Touchdown.

Ted Ginn Jr. returned two kick returns for touchdowns in the same quarter, something that has not been done in the NFL since 1967; But not only were they in the same quarter,  they were back to back. Ginn also became the first player in NFL history to score two kickoff-return touchdowns of 100 or more yards in the same game.  These two exiting plays played a tremendous role in the Dolphins win over the Jets, and they could not have come in a better time.  If the dolphins lost they would have had a 2-5 record and possibly be last in the division, but thankfully they pulled out a win, are third in the division and still very .   The Dolphins were able to defeat the Jets 30-25 even though their offense only scored 9 points.  The other touchdown was accredit to Jason Taylor who scooped up a fumble and returned it 48 yards.  The Dolphins offense can give great thanks to there defense and special teams, because they did what there offense is supposed to do which is put points on the board.

Lindsay Lohan’s Dad Claims She Could be Dead in a Year

Slippery Slope...

It seems that Lindsay can’t avoid the press as they are constantly talking about her. On top of that, her dad, Michael, won’t leave her alone either. He recently told Grazia magazine that he worries that Lindsay will be dead within a year. Lindsay has pleaded with her father to stop talking about her to the press. However, the press isn’t interested in her dad if he isn’t talking about his famous daughter. Speaking to Grazia, Michael Lohan said, “She needs long-term rehab. I fear the worst. Look at Elvis, Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger. It could be a year, a month, a week – who knows?” He fears that she won’t make it to the age of twenty-five, or maybe even twenty-four. An angered fan of Lindsay said, “Michael Lohan cares more about garnering publicity than he does about the health and well-being of his wayward daughter. He should be working behind the scenes to save his daughter, and not in the glare of the cameras.” Lindsay Lohan has now become a reverse role model to girls.

There is a quote for the Chinese people. The only things that fly in the sky that Chinese not eat are airplane. The only thing in four legs that Chinese people not eat was table. The only things that on the ocean Chinese not eat are boat. This is a joke for Chinese people. When I was in Taiwan I never think about how different we are. But since I come to united state, I realize how “special “ we are. In Taiwan we eat a lot of internal organ. Like heart, liver, lung, kidney. Anything that is on an animal body Chinese people will eat. I remember a lot of time I go out with my friend. Me and my other Asian friend will order pig ear and chicken feet. I remember most of my American friend will be so shock. They cannot image how weird we are. But I think this is not the weirdest food. There a lot of weird food in china and Taiwan.

Rubik's Cube

The Rubik’s Cube wasn’t intended to be one of history’s best-selling toys on the market.  Erno Rubik was just fascinated by the idea of creating a cube that each piece could independently move and still stay in one piece.   In 1944 in Budapest, Hungary, Erno Rubik is born.  By 1974 he created the first working prototype of the cube and is considered to be the official birth date of the cube.  In 1975 the toy is patented and is first sold in stores as “The Magic Cube” in 1977.  The toy was a huge hit and in 1980 the name was changed from “The Magic Cube” to “The Rubik’s Cube”.  Two years later in 1982 the first annual International Rubik’s Championships were held in Budapest.  More than 100 million Cubes have been sold today and it was in 1982 that the word “Rubik” was officially added into the Oxford English Dictionary.  Erno Rubik went on to be an architect, designer, and a university professor.

Birds on a Golf Course

According to recent studies by the RSPB (the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) has concluded that golf courses are great places for sanctuaries for birds and other animals.  Statistics show that there are more than 140,000 acres of out-of-bounds and rough areas on golf courses in Britain.  The same areas are covered by all the RSPB’s reserves.  For a great majority of golfers, part of the enjoyment of golf is the nature and wildlife that a golf course contains.  The RSPB has asked golf courses to cut down on the use of fertilizers and chemicals in the unused areas to make it a safer and healthier place for birds to live.  The RSPB and the R&A (golf’s governing body) have joined together and produced a publication, “Birds and Golf Courses: A Guide To Habitat Management”.  The purpose of the book is to get golf courses to encourage the presence of birds.

The Young and The Old

U.S. Army adHello, I am a student here in America. I go to school and have lived a pretty average life. The reason I write this is because I have seen hypocrisy within our country. Too often we here of countries using military propaganda, and too often our media demonizes them for this. If you are American or visited our country chances are you have seen first hand what our media is like. While I lived in this country I have seen hundreds of military ads. In movie previews there are military glorifying music videos; on billboards, poster, and busses alike. All countries glorify their militaries through strategies like propaganda. “War is when the old trick the young into doing horrible things.” So when the recruiters come for your child and use programs like the ROTC, just be sure that they are aware of what the sign up for.

Crying is healthy

Posted by: lazygirjl on: November 2, 2009

Most people are ashamed and embarrassed of being seen crying. This is especially true for younger people because in front of your peers, it would seem totally “uncool”. As you grow older however, you will start to understand that crying is normal and that it is just another expression of your emotions. Whenever something bad happens you may start to cry, most of the times, without your intentions of doing so. Although it is embarrassing, scientists say that it is a healthy activity, if done moderately. Crying relives built up emotions and tensions, and it is one way of cleaning your deepest emotions that no words can describe. Research shows that people who try to hold back their tears tend to be more tense and moody while people who cry at times seem happier. This makes sense because if you keep filling yourself up with anger and sadness and conceal them from everybody, you will just become more unhappy. However, if you let everything out at once, you will be clear of the negative energies. You might not think it is credible but you have got to admit that after a bad day, crying makes you feel surprisingly better.

AC Milan confirms Beckham’s return

Posted by: gonzaloasis on: November 2, 2009

David Beckham will dress the jersey of AC Milan again on January 2010, as announced in the official web page of the team this Sunday. Beckham, who had also played the second half of the season with Milan last year, will arrive in January as a way of not losing shape and proving the English coach that he is ready to play the World Cup in South Africa. The season is very shor in the US, so the English player would not be able to play during winter and Spring, something that will definitely nopt help his game. “David didn’t say goodbye, he said see you soon. His return will be dedicated to the three friends (Kaka, Maldini and Ancelotti) that he will not see this year in Milanello,” posted AC Milan in its web page. Ancelotti concluded, “We are sure that this period in Europe will help David to participate in the World Cup and continue with his career in Los Angeles Galaxy, to whom we have to thank the availability shown.”

New Face, New Beginning

Chaos filled Afghanistan for more years then we could ever imagine, as they have never had a leader that represents what the people believe in. Especially over the past few years, chaos has been the word to describe the Afghan government and the citizens. The U.S. has done its part to make peace within the country and try to create a strong central government. All this hard work has now paid off; Afghans have finally elected a new president to rule their country, Hamid Karzai. The real test for Karzai now, will be if he can form a government that is approved by the Afghan people and the countries with a vested interest in Afghanistan’s future. Karzai assures those around him that he wants to set a positive example for all those around him and be an effective leader. Afghanistan has been through a lot in recent years, but it appears that they are now on the right path and are establishing a new beginning. This is a good day in Afghanistan and provides reassurance for the Afghan people at the moment. Afghanistan is far from becoming the perfect country but electing a new leader who is willing to create a strong central government is the first step in the right direction.

Weekend Trip to LA

Posted by: devu91 on: November 2, 2009

LMU_2This Friday I leave to go to Los Angeles for the weekend. I fly in the afternoon on Friday and get back on Monday. I am going to attend a recruiting camp at Loyola Marymount University.

I am hoping to go to college in California next year, and LMU is an option. In addition, there will also be coaches from other colleges in California. It is a good opportunity to showoff myself and gain some interest. I have been to LA only once before, but I never really left the hotel room, except to play the soccer games we went there for. So I never got a chance to see Los Angeles, Hollywood, the beach etc. I am highly anticipating this weekend. It will be great to play some soccer and get a tour of the campus at LMU on saturday, and then have a good time in the evening and on sunday maybe get a chance to do some sight seeing.  I am very excited.

If all goes well I can impress some coaches and open some opportunities for next year.

11-year-old mother

An eleven year old Bulgarian girl, recently gave birth on the way to her wedding. While still wearing her wedding dress and tiara, she was rushed to the hospital. Kordza proudly showed off her 5 lb 8 oz baby daughter Violeta, and said, “I will stop playing with toys, because I have a new one now.” The day after she gave birth, she married her 19-year-old boyfriend, Jeliazko. The two of them met in the school playground when Jeliazko saved Kordza from some bullies. However, Jeliazko does faces six years in jail for having sex with an underage girl. Both grandmothers will be guardians of baby Violeta, and Kordeza and her daughter will receive £70 a month in state benefits. Jeliazko said: “I want Violeta to be educated, to be able to read and write. She was born famous and maybe she will stay famous like becoming a doctor who invents brilliant medicine or saves lives.” Personally, I think this is crazy, imagine if Violeta had a baby when she is 11. Kordza would then be a grandmother at the age of 22!

IMG vs. South Carolina United

Posted by: devu91 on: November 2, 2009

On Saturday, we had a game against South Carolina United. We had played them before this season in Charleston, South Carolina. the-soccer-academy

The game began and about 10 minutes in they scored and we went one goal down. The goal wasn’t very good, it was a mix up between out defenders and the ball ended up in the back of the net. It wasn’t long until we scored the equalizer. From then on we took control of the game. We dominated the possession and before half time converted once more to end the half at 2-1 to IMG.

In the second half, we coninued from our momentum in the first half and scored 2 more goals. The game ended 4-1. We have the highest point per game average in our conference and are doing very well at the moment. Our next game is in 2 weeks in Richmond, Virginia. We then travel to Atlanta, Georgia, the weekend after that.

Fashion in IMG

Posted by: joanna200 on: November 2, 2009

sweats
IMG popular outfit

There is no such thing as fashion in Img. Kids in the academy do not wear going out clothes or any clothes that are currently in fashion. Most kids wear nike sweatpants, shorts, t-shirts, sandals etc.. Nobody really dresses or has any type of apreciation for fashion and do not even try to update it. There is a very small percentage of boys and girls that actually care about fashion and dress according to it. The bad thing about this situation is that since there is nobody that dresses up nicely, people are not inspired to do it. Most people in the academy do not even pay attention in the way they look and this is really wrong. People here do not dress up when they go out for a nice dinner or ever parties. Kids don’t care the way they present themselves to other people and wear clothes that are unfit for occasions. We should have a fashion class to show kids in this academy to not only know how to play sports and do well in school, but also to dress nicely and be presentable.

Kristen Stewart arrived in Brazil on Sunday to promote her new movie, New Moon. But she was not with her boyfriend, Robert Pattison, instead she went with Taylor Lautner. Maybe the rumor about the breakup between her and Pattinson is true, maybe their secret romance is over. In the promotion, Kristen wore her usual “too cool for school look” . She had on a black skirt and a simple top. Her Joan Jett cut is taking really long to grow out and Kristen Stewart doesn’t seem to care or bother styling it. Even though it is really hard to grow short hair out, it would be good to try a little updo (Teen Choice Awards-style). We are going to keep seeing and checking out how her hair looks, hopefully it grows as she keeps on promoting her new movie. She well next be going to New Mexico and hopefully we will see some improvements in her hair and outfit.

Karzai, new President of Afghanistan

Posted by: gonzaloasis on: November 2, 2009

The elections in Afghanistan have been solved six days before the established date, and have elected Hamid Karzai as new President.
One day after the withdrawal from the election of opponent Abdula Abdula, stating that the machinery that generated the massive fraud in the first round of the election was going to be used again to perpetuate another fraud, the Independent Electoral Commission, responsible for organising the event, announced the final suspension of the elections and proclaimed Karzai as the new President.
Hamid Karzai is the winner of an election in which everyone has lost. He did, because he lost all his legitimacy and political credit in the way. The Afghans lost, because after 30 years of war and supposed democratization and reconstruction, they are still the main victims. And the West lost, since they have invested more than $65 billion and given the lives of over 1,500 soldiers in a conflict  now bogged down both militarily and politically.
